I'm not sure what you are asking. Prior service has nothing to do with officer promotions unless of course you have some derog in your file and in that case you won't get promoted...it's all about time. There are no BZ to 1LT or CPT. It could be shorter or longer than your peers based on dates of rank. A few days difference in peer groups dates of rank can cost up to a year difference in promotion. I know, I am one of those that ended up being on the positive side. Many of my peers are a year behind me. The only time someone gets "constructive credit" is if they go into a branch and AOC when they have a number of years working at an equivalent or higher level in the civilian sector or educationally qualified at that level. This is where you get people in AMEDD coming into the Army as CPT, MAJ, LTC, and for some physician specialties where they have 20+ years of civilian practice, COL (I had the pleasure of going through Officer Basic with a world-renowned Cardiologist who was commissioned as a CO). This practice can happen in other branches, but AMEDD uses this practice more than the others.

Your enlisted time, as long as it is 4 years Compo 1 or Compo3 -AGR, gets counted toward pay only. If you were Compo3 - USAR you can get enlisted time counted toward pay if you have 1,461 retirement points (365x4 + 1 point for a leap year).
