I’m currently finishing up 15T training I want to go 12B after my contract ends. How do you like the MOS?

SPC (Join to see) 12B is a demanding job especially if you're assigned to a combat engineer type unit (typically SAPPER companies, MACs, or some parts of BEB). It's fun if you like infantry type stuff but also like demolition. It's hard work and you'd be hoofin' it a lot. I always (jokingly) say that 12Bs are one step above 11Bs as we clear the way for them. Except for 12C (Bridge Crewmember) 12B is the only combat engineer MOS the rest are primarily construction or technical based. If you have any questions about the specifics shoot me a message.

SPC (Join to see) MAJ Balcinovic pretty much hit the nail on the head. It's a fun, but tough, job that is technical in different aspects than your 15T MOS. 12Bs are essentially infantry without as in-depth team/squad tactics involved, but adding the knowledge to tactically remove or create obstacles (make boom, clear path).
You get all the fun of ground pounding with the added benefit of blowing stuff up. But that does depend quite heavily on the type of unit you get assigned to. BEBs are good as they typically have two full 12B companies that actually do demolitions and route clearance operations. MAC units are typically standalone 12B companies that do the same thing, but focus more specifically on route clearance. Actual Sapper companies are found as part of Maneuver Enhancement Brigades (MEBs) and are standalone elements that support that objective, typically by blowing things up.
Also, you'll find quite a love/hate relationship with Tina (if you don't know her look up "triple standard wire fence").

I enjoyed most aspects of it, but there are few to no technical skills transferable to the civilian world unless you go in to a field involving demolitions.

Most of your time as a 12b will be consumed by mowing grass, picking up garbage, sweeping and mopping the company, cleaning latrines etc. Only a few months out the the year you will actually do your job unless your deployed. Basically no transferable skills or certificates to the civilian world. It does have quick promotions and low points though. That's it for now hope you found this helpful.
