If I’m not rated 30% and receive severance pay, do I have to pay that back? 2018-06-07T22:32:07-04:00 2018-06-07T22:32:07-04:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 3694474 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If you receive a severance and then receive a disability rating from the VA with disability pay, you won&#39;t receive any money until you&#39;ve paid back the amount you received.<br />For example:<br />The Army rates you at 10% and you receive a $20,000 severance, the VA rates you at 30% and you receive $400 a month. 20,000/400=58 months. You will wait 50 months prior to receiving any VA payments. It&#39;s not worth it in the long run. Not all instances give you the option to refuse, so good luck.
