I'm direct commission w/ Reserves as a 70B. My AMEDD recruiter told me the contract was for 3 years AGR, then 5 IRR. Is this true?

The Commissioning paperwork only says 8 year commitment in the Reserves, but doesn't specify how that time is broken up. Thanks in advance!

From my understanding, all initial contracts are for 8 years. If you don’t do at least 3 years active duty, you will spend the entire 8 years as an obligated reservist. If you completed 3 years active then you have the option of serving the remaining time as active reservist or inactive reservist.

Review page three of your NGB 62E. If your service time had been partitioned, you will find the specifics on that page. Otherwise, the requirement is typically an eight-year active membership unless an unqualified resignation is submitted and approved.

Every person has a eight year Military Service Obligation MSO. That means as a member of the Selected Reserve SELRES you would be obligated for the terms of your contract.

I don’t believe AGR is part of the obligation. Active or Inactive Reserve participation is the requirements. Contact the commands Retention NCO and obtain information to resolve your needs.

It would be great if AGR was a part but I’m sure it is not.
