H8 is a great ASI to have as a mechanic. You shall be a very valuable asset to your company. You're going to be trained on how to recover vehicles that are broke down/stuck/can't move using special vehicles/equipment.

A H8 ASI means you'll be trained in wheel vehicle recovery operations. As MSG (Join to see) said, you'll be a valuable individual for the unit.
The H8 course “covers operation and maintenance of recovery vehicles and use of standard procedures to rig and recover wheeled vehicles. Related training tasks include oxygen and acetylene gas welding; boom and hoist operations; winch operations; and recovery of mired, overturned, and disabled vehicles.” You'll become familiar with the use of the various wreckers and their operations.
SPC Smedlap got his HMMWV stuck in a ditch? SGT Snuffy tried to drive his HEMTT and tall load under a short bridge? LT swears that the stream looked low enough to drive through and it wasn't his fault ... In all these cases, PVT Gardner and the others trained in recovery operations have just become VIPs in the unit.
