I'm having trouble deciding between 25B and 25U both with airborne. Any advice?

I would ask what you are most interested in Computers or Radios? I am a 25B and have done various jobs such as help desk support, work order management (remedy), Video teleconferences, tactical network setups, call managers, network configurations, MS Office support, and others that I cannot think of.

25U from my experience have dealt more on the radio side but they are can also deal with computers as well.

There job description is as follows:
Maintain radio and data distribution systems
Perform signal support functions and technical assistance for computer systems
Provide technical assistance and training for local area networks
Maintenance for equipment, terminal devices, assigned vehicles and power generators

I cannot remember if the 25U are the ones that are color blind though. Physcially both still can do Airborne duty. As far as promotions go 25B are starting to speed up a little bit but were very stagnant for a while. I cannot speak for the 25U promotion rates.

I served as a 25U and performed duties as a 25B years ago. If you have an interest in computers then I would recommend 25B. 25U does having the opportunity to work with computers however as a 25U it was hard for us to get the unit to send us to pay for our certifications because they are not as necessary as they are for a 25B.

That being said, I did like my job as a 25U but job was not very challenging and I spent most my time helping people fix mistakes they made when trying to use their radios. If you have any specific questions about the job feel free to message me and I will be happy to answer.

I’m still in training but from what I know 25U is the fastest in promotion and do a little bit of everything in the 25 series.
Although it depends on the unit you get sent to you’ll more likely than not be working with radios, but you can be working in an S6 shop or pretty much anything they need done. It’s a very vague job however personally I think it has the best potential for a future civilian career.

25B are very slow for promotions, plus once you pick up E-5 you won't have your own team as 25B are not slotted for team chief positions. So if you chose 25B and you make E-5 either you are still not in charge of your own team or you go to Brigade with a few other people. If you want to go to Brigade you have to make sure that you are the best 25B and can do other jobs competently to even get looked at. I think the best is 25Q, I believe their promotion points are at like a stagnant 39 whereas 25B are almost maxed I believe, it's been a hot minute since I've looked at the points. I have no idea about 25U, I'm in a signal unit and I believe we have like 2 Uniforms so I have no clue on them, but good luck!

Take 25B with AirBorne.
This puts you in the computer field of the Army's Signal Corps. Now you have to train and learn at the same time. Take notes always. This is a Growing and Competitive Field. These soldiers are in demand everywhere!!. Especially in the Special Operations Branch, where I retired from.

Decide what you want from there.

I am a 25B, Airborne, and have been SOF majority of my career (not by my choice). Your career is what you make of it. Being a B or U means you have to be quite competitive when it comes to promotion. When it’s time for you to get out the military make sure you have your certifications and your degree. Either MOS you choose, be sure to go AIRBORNE!

As a 25 u I'm my battalion I work with radios, jcr, various antennas, comsec. Its rewarding I. Its own way. However your job mostly comes into play on missions other than that we help out the bravos with their work load

25B is a very well rounded IT skill set. Three others and myself used it to secure government IT jobs with the VA. I was pretty much told that it was getting A+, N+, Security+, and Cisco CCNA: Route and switching certs that landed me the job.

If you like working with networking B is the way to go U usually deal more with Radios and do retrains missions.

Go 25b if you want to broaden your unit picks. I know all of USASOC at Fort Campbell are currently taking all 25u slots out of our MTOE.

I was a 25B and loved every minute of it! I started out as a 74C and they changed it to a 25B
