Don't volunteer for anything, ever. It is a trap.
2. Shut up at all times unless...
3. If spoken to, sound off with any response that you make as loudly as you can.
4. This is a great opportunity to get in shape. Do all of the exercises to the best of your ability, and try to eat healthy in the DFAC.
5. Try to learn as much as you can, and resist the temptation to skate by.
6. Nobody likes a know it all, and nobody likes the guy who asks questions when asked if there are any questions. If you legitimately didn't understand what information was presented, ask a buddy. The DI is a last resort.
6a. There is no such thing as a teacher's pet in BCT. Don't try it. It will backfire.
7. Focus on where you are at and what you are doing. That girl back home will be there when you return, or she wasn't worth it anyway. Your job is to learn and be good at being an Airman. Other stuff can wait a few weeks.
8. Don't buy a bunch of cool-guy tactical crap at the BX. You don't need it, or it would have been issued to you. When you get to your unit, you will have ample opportunity (with the help of your NCOs) to identify any stuff you really need for the job you will have. You are wasting your money, trust me on this.
9. Keep mom informed by writing her a letter once a week, or calling about that often if authorized. Same goes with any romantic interest you may seek to maintain. More than that violates Rule 7, and sets up unrealistic expectations for how often you can communicate with them.
But some communication is important.
10. While you are there, try to build and maintain a relationship with some of your classmates. You share a bond that many don't understand, and many a lifelong friendship is forged in training.

Good luck, Joseph Richer 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Tue, 09 Jan 2018 14:37:14 -0500 2018-01-09T14:37:14-05:00 Response by Joseph Richer made Jan 9 at 2018 2:43 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/i-m-in-the-process-of-joining-the-air-force-do-you-have-any-tips-or-experiences-that-could-make-me-less-nervous?n=3241488&urlhash=3241488

This helped a lot thank you so much Joseph Richer Tue, 09 Jan 2018 14:43:58 -0500 2018-01-09T14:43:58-05:00 Response by Sgt Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 9 at 2018 3:20 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/i-m-in-the-process-of-joining-the-air-force-do-you-have-any-tips-or-experiences-that-could-make-me-less-nervous?n=3241597&urlhash=3241597

Joseph Richer Being nervous is normal. Listen, observe and learn. Have a never quit attitude and always put forth your best effort. Stay squared away at all times. Obtain as much education as you can as there will be life after the Air Force. Save your money and learn about investing. Enjoy the challenges and adventures. Nor in the rear. Those in the rear become the front when to the rear march is called. This is NOT one of them. Thousands upon thousands of men and women have done this before you and more than that will do it after you. While DI's may make it seem like they want you out, they really don't. Their goal is to graduate you. So do your best at everything, help others that need it, follow the rules, and keep your mouth shut. You'll be fine.
