Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 19 at 2021 9:57 PM 2021-12-19T21:57:23-05:00 2021-12-19T21:57:23-05:00 SGM Private RallyPoint Member 7431450 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Talk to your In Service Recruiter / Reserve Component Career Counselor.<br />It&#39;s a mandatory stop for clearing active duty, but you can set an early appointment to get information.<br />You can sign that contract 180 days prior to your ETS, and the contract is effective the day after your ETS, (but give it another week after that before you try to get a new CAC).<br /><br />There is more 11B than 19D, so it makes more sense to go 11B. if you want to see the Cav, (if TX ARNG has one) the C Trp is 11B also.<br /><br />11B is a 4 week transition course, taught in several states, don&#39;t put it off, get it done your first year.<br /><br />And don&#39;t base your decision solely on an MOS you think you want, seriously consider what units are closest to where you will live, work and/or go to school.<br />TX is a big state, don&#39;t choose a unit that&#39;s a 900 mile drive for drill.<br />If OK or NM units are closer to where you will live, check those out, too. You don&#39;t have to live in the state of your unit, and it&#39;s just easier if your unit is closer. Going from the big leagues to the JV is one thing, but doing it AND choosing useless MOS&#39;s that don&#39;t benefit you in the real world in terms of skills, certification and education is just going too far...<br />Transitions are an opportunity to get something worthwile. Don&#39;t waste it. Dont do it unless you know thats where your heart is at. For us infantry guys, we do it because we love it! Wouldn&#39;t trade it for anything. That being said, I wouldn&#39;t change your MOS to infantry. When you get out, you&#39;re going to want a skill that can be transferred into the civilian world. Stick with your current MOS and use your GI Bill. NG is a great component with great benefits. I left active for 6 years and now I’m in a signal unit in the guard. Just look at trying to drill close, and utilize the benefits available to you.
