I will be on active duty orders for 18 months. Is it at all possible for him to get a duty station near Ft. Rucker?

He could get stationed in Benning. He probably won't, but he could. But then you would PCS after flight school and he would still be at Benning for several years.

Not to be contradictory, it is not at all likely. There is nothing for an Infantry Officer at Rucker. It is also unlikely that a recent Ranger grad would be allowed away from troops for an extended period. All things are possible, he will have to speak to his command and then Branch manager. Not trying to dampen your hopes, just being realistic. Thank you for your service.

All input is welcome. We understand it is a long shot. If anything I’m hoping he will re-enlist in the Guard eventually. But Ft. Benning isn’t too far from Rucker. Just trying to see if we can do the impossible. After all I was told I had a snow ball’s chance in hell of becoming an aviator! But I am from Alaska, so guess I am the snowball that’s going to flight school!

LTC Jason Mackay I am not sure what the term is for officers that go from active to guard. After their initial contract is up. But that is what I meant.

Maybe I should mention he is an Infantry Officer in Ranger School now. His current duty station is Ft. Wainwright.

2LT (Join to see) if he is at Ranger School now, and doesn't recycle, he'll be on career trajectory. If he recycles, goes through gulag, he may turn a two month school into 6-7. I have seen this hurt officers as they are not meeting the other Company grade leadership requirements. I saw one officer nonselect to Captain after a 12 month junket at Ranger School. He hadn't minimal platoon time and got put in to Staff. Nothing wrong with the guy, just got bad luck coupled with crappy talent Management.

LTC Jason Mackay So far, so good. I find out Friday if he made it through Mountain Phase but he said he has a great squad. He is pretty squared away, but anything can happen. Hope all that gum I’ve been sending helps!
