If so, that would help.

Exceptions are made all the time for guys deploying. Talk to your readiness NCO, then 1SG, then commander. It will probably have to go to at least the BDE level, maybe higher. Transparency is the key and keeping them inundated with info. It doesn't hurt to present them a plan as soon as you ask with a timeline. That will give the impression that you are legitimately wanting to deploy; you just need to tie up some loose ends first. I've discussed everything with my Unit Ministry Team and decided to go forward with a memorandum to my CO Command Staff notifying them of the circumstances, plan of action, and my request. Hopefully, the CMD will understand that this move will make me more available for future deployments and allow me to be a fully mission capable leader, and I will still be an option for this current deployment as a late-deployer. If so, see if they can work something on the regards of financial/medical reasoning. You may have already done this, but with care in a assisted living, does she have an alternative POA in your absence, etc. etc.

If you can show a plan to your CoC with your request chit for extention, they should be able to work with you. Make it clear that you are not trying to avoid the deployment, but need to get your dependent mother settled in before you go. They should have slots for temporary stay-behind orders and can just cut you a separate set of orders to catch up to them down range... all of this is dependent on them though. They do have the option of telling you to suck it up (if it is a mandatory mob). IT is very difficult and will consume your free time quite often but it will help dramatically until she's fully settled in.
