I'm Pcsing to Fort Carson any insight on this place good and bad? Also I looked online it's considered one of best duty station how true

I was stationed there 3 years ago, so my info may be a bit dated, but I loved it. Lots of outdoor activities...everything you could want. But it's also large enough to have all the city ameneties. The post was super nice as well. Finance was jacked up, but when isn't it? I miss it and would gladly go back in a heart beat.

I did an annual training there and I lived in Fort Collins, CO for 5 years. Would still be there ecept for my wife having breathing problems in that altitude.

Colorado Springs is a great area. The post is pretty new and there is a wide array of things to do in the city. You have a ton of out door opportunities. The scenery is awesome! Need I go on?

It is what you make it. I've been here for 3 years and re-enlisted for stabilization. Colorado Springs is a great place to live but just like any other Duty station you deal with the army bs to say nicely.

I retired from Fort Carson-you should consider your self very lucky to be transferring to Carson. If you like the outdoors,i.e. Fishing, snow skiing and hunting you'll be one happy camper

Great place for out-door activities. Units on Ft Carson, are same as any other place...it's what you make of it. If you have not already put in for a sponsor on ACTNOW.army.mil, then you should. If you don't hear from your Sponsor in a very short period of time, contact me and I will make sure they contact you. Additionally, we have been working really hard to update the unit information....I would also suggest going out to the Ft. Carson website and under the tap "New Comers, click on the Unit you are going to. If unsure which one is yours...let me know. I can help with that.

I was at 7ID from 2003-2005. Great place, fantastic new facilities (then and I think since there have been lots of upgrades), lots of family activities and for single soldiers it was ok too. Beside the stereotypical outdoorsy activities, there is art, music and nature. Go run the Garden of the Gods on a Saturday morning. Of course if you're just a barracks rat or stuck in the field there or Pinon Canyon training area it sucks like any field conditions. Altitude takes some getting used to so give it 6 weeks before the headaches go away. It will get cold but the sun and UV radiation make it bearable unlike the East or Graf in Germany.

Well, it looks like I'm going to be that guy. I left Carson in November of '14. I was there for 8 months. That's all. Just 8 months and I HATED it. The unit was just....awful. I do know that most units are pretty good. Mine however, was not. I won't name names or drop numbers, but I truly hope you don't get stuck over in Lionland, or Mechville.

Spent about 3 years there, it WAS a great duty assignment, BE CAREFUL, don't stay in the sun too long, (1.5 hr. MAX) you will get burned super easy...the air is thin as hell, so don't go balls to the wall running right away, you have to get 'acclimatized' (sp). Dependant on what unit you're in, there may be an awful lot of down time (for me there was) However, saying that, you could be in DivArty or straight leg inf, and do an awful lot of time in Pinon Canyon or going to NTC...hope this helps a little bit.

Fort Carson will be whatever you make of it. There's plenty of breweries, places to do stuff outside, the night life is pretty decent and the camping opportunities are great.

Like everywhere, you'll have some great units, some decent units and some bad ones. That's the same anywhere you go, but how you manage your expectations will determine how it impacts you.

I love this place. If they didn't offer me an assignment in Europe when I reenlisted, I would have stabilized.

I was stationed there 2009-2013. It is a beautiful place to get out and do some hiking and exploring. Garden of the Gods is a must. There is also downtown on Tejon Street where most of your bars are. Manitou Springs is neat as well. If you like shooting your privately owned weapons, Dragonman's is an awesome outdoor range that also has a museum. You can also rent all sorts of cool weapons to fire. As far as the Army aspect goes, the altitude is pretty high, and its very thin air, so running sucks for the first month or two. (Also if you drink keep in mind, you get intoxicated more quickly because of the altitude). Like every post, you have the good and bad units. You still have the B.S that comes up every now and then. But overall, it's a great place to be. I'd love to go back, I miss it.

Ha, I was stationed there my entire army career. But, I was mobilized 75% of the time. Colorado Springs was nice, while I was there..Even married my ex-wife there, and left her there...LOL

It all depends on your unit. The post is awesome. Second best city I've ever live (military and civilian) but live off post if you have dependents. And avoid gate 20 if possible

I just left carson. I was stationed at Carson for over 4 years. It's a good duty station but be warned you may get a lot of field time. What unit are u assigned to?

There are two kinds of people at Fort Carson.
1) Those assigned there as their first duty station and think there is something better.
2) Those that have been to other duty stations and know there is nothing better.

BEST DUTY STATION IN THE ARMY! The city is great, the people are great, the lifestyle is great, the air is clean, nothing bad to say about this place. If you have young kids take them into the main town square where they can play in the fountain. Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, Rocky Mountain (skiing, snowboarding, hiking, etc.), hunting, fishing, biking, running, the list is ENDLESS! Never a dull moment when I was there. I went to work to take a break for all the cool stuff my family was doing on the weekends. Most people need a weekend to recover from a hard work week - I needed a work week to recover from my weekends. GREATEST DUTY STATION EVER!

I have a question so I know people say Ft Carson is the best place to be stationed. But what do they mean they get deployed the most ? Say for instance someone’s MOS is 27 D what does that mean? I just signed up for the army leave for basic soon I was just wondering for future references. Regardless if I deploy or not I’m just happy I’m serving for my country
