I'm PCSing to Fort Polk next April. What should I expect when I arrive (housing/barracks, the surrounding area, and climate)?

Could you be a little more specific? When you "arrive"....meaning the reception and in-processing experience? The housing/barracks situation? The installation itself? Things to do in the surrounding community? The climate?

Have been here for 3years and trust me its not as bad as people say there is a lot to do if u are willing to take the drive. you have Houston which is 3hours away, new Orleans roughly 4hours away. and on base you have the gym, if u interested in sport then they do have sport activities like soccer, football, basketball and other sports

Well I just called maintenance for the second bubble in my ceiling from a roof leak in the past 6 months, my home has asbestos, and you'll be in the field half the time you're here. But the area is nice if you're "outdoorsy" or like a small town feel. Not a good post for single soldiers, but married soldiers seem to do ok here.

Take plenty of mosquito repellent. You might consider a tennis racket as some of the damn things get big and they travel in large swarms. Good luck.
