I'm searching for unit history for a Military Police unit that served in WW2. Is there anyone that can help with that?

I'm trying to help a friend (non-military), find information about the unit his Grandfather served in during WW2!

The only information he could provide me was that he was in the Army 2nd Corps, 814th or 815th Combat Military Police Battalion and served in Africa and the Liberation of France.

Does anyone know any information as to these units or could point me in the right direction? Thanks!!

Look up eVetRecs online, have them submit a Java applet request, generate the printout, sign and date it, and ask for their relative's personnel and medical files, have them ask for both explicitly...they can get duplicate decorations, a Presidential certificate, a flag if they dont have one already, possibly, they just can't lose the request number, that they absolutely mist have to have the NPRC staff in St Louis look up the request, it'll take generally a couple of months, I've done such things for our family !any times...also, elaborate, if you can, what service, what theatrez Europe or Pacific, what unit, as detailed as you can ne, what they know of where he was, heyll need his SSN and/or serial number, his DOB, also, the Java applet doesn't give much space, they might want to fax in the signed request dated with a cover letter, they can also call Matl Archives (NARA), however, NPRC has always been quite good about any requests we've had me send inz honest, give more, of you can, I'll try to suggest more, OK?

Using the Center of Military History lineage and honors page, not all inclusive, there wasn't a listing for 814 or 815 MP BNs. Most MP units are numbered companies. 814 MP Co fought in the Pacific.

After reading the replies and doing some looking myself, I'd say the comment about getting the records is the best way to go. Until you know for sure what unit we're talking about(814th or 815th, CO or BN, etc.), you'd be chasing a lot of paper that might not even apply to this friend's relative.
