The latest tragedy of gun violence against the LGBTQ community is just a continuance of the attack in the SC church, the campus shootings, Navy Yard assault, Theater attack, and assaults upon our children at schools. Assault weapons are the issue, not "guns." How do we fix this?

The Second Amendment has not failed us, society has failed us. The dark side of society, criminals who wish to cause destruction upon peaceful people. I will not argue that a weapon such as a firearm can perpetrate more damage. But do you really want to remove the means for innocent law abiding citizens to protect themselves. How has all the laws on the war on drugs done for us? If a perpetrator wishes to do harm on the innocent or even those they think have done them wrong nothing will stop them. There will never be a future free of gun violence or any violence for that matter. Just as there will never be a future being free of damaging drugs. There will always be perpetrators and victims as long as we don't take the issue of mental illness seriously. Anyone who wishes to inflict harm, terrorist included are wrong in the head and suffer from mental illness. Removing the arms of the innocent is not the answer!

The 2nd Amendment has failed us? THAT is one of the most ridicules things I've ever read on here. Individual responsibility and accountability has failed. The trophy for participation and entitlement mentality is the reason we are "here" now. Protection of one self, family, country and from governmental tranny is the reason for 2nd Amendment and is God given, not by any governmental agency. The 1934 & 1968 Firearms Acts GROSSLY overreached & indeed VOILATED the rights of a free citizenry.

The 2nd Amendment was put there for a reason, and it h worked only up to revcently. Why? Has American society changed? If people decide they are going to hurt or kill, the weapon is irrelevant. You cannot legislate peoples thoughts and actions. For instance, look at the UK, with practically no gun access, terrorists are stilling shooting/killing or mowing victims down on the sidewalks, same in France. What we need is stronger penalties for he use of firearms during the course of a crime. Also allow for mental health records to be part of the purchase process (what about Hippa?). For terrorist activities this wont really work but for home grown "bad guys" it will hopefully make them think twice adn stop some overall violence against society. Its human action, not the tool.

We cannot make crime any less legal. Imposing more regulations upon law abiding citizens will only affect law abiding citizens.

No the sad thing is that you people think that criminals will obey gun laws. Only thing gun control does is keep law abiding citizens from defending themselves.

Spec Voye there are lots of rules and regs on the books already with zero impact on The last several shootings at schools. Schools are gun free zones by federal law minors in possession of firearms without parental supervision Against federal law committing murder both Fed and state law violation Stealing fire arms state law violation. So what sort of law do you think we need that will prevent this type crimes. My short list is probably good for 20 or more years in jail. Of course each killed or injured can be a separate charge and sentences can be stacked.

CPT William Jones - In total agreement on all your statements except one....any violent crime involving a firearm resulting in a death....should be an automatic death penalty !!! Not speaking of hunting accidents or the like either !!!

It's very interesting that you blame a piece of equipmenthe, rather than the person who did the act.

Do you also think the First Amendment should be amended too? After all, words can hurt too.

Maj Mike Sciales - At what point, sir, does "reasonable restrictions" become UNREASONABLE? I do not trust politicians to look out for me and my family's welfare. They always propose more stringent controls whenever their first attempts fail. We already have gun control laws on the books that our government fails to enforce. The second amendment was stating a natural law restricting the government's authority over "WE the People." Its purpose was to ensure we would not be made to submit to tyrants, both foreign and domestic.

COL (Join to see) - Please enlighten me. Which amendment said it was alright to own people? The thirteenth amendment abolished it (with the exception of punishment for a crime) but there was NEVER an amendment or a clause permitting it. While slavery was the "law of the land" here and in many countries abroad (including Africa) it was not a constitutional right. Nice try sir. Better luck next time.
