I'm transitioning from 0341 to 11c in the army (not my first choice) but it gets me in the door. What duty stations are there for families? 2021-03-26T13:57:54-04:00 Sgt Private RallyPoint Member 6855318

I've looked into Ft. Carson already. Just curious, we normally don't get to pick our duty stations unless reenlisting for duty station of choice. So, more than likely you will get stuck where the Army puts you. All the bases I have been on are for families, it's just usually the out lying cities you have to watch out for. Ft. Carson is a great base from what I have heard a lot guys I know loved it there. The Army composition can be a bit confusing coming from the Marines because we have Brigade and Regiments and Task Forces and other hodge podge commands especially when OCONUS.

The main bases you'll be likely to go to are:
Hawaii
Korea
Germany
Wainwright Alaska
Lewis
Carson
Hood
Bliss
Riley
Drum
Stewart
Campbell
Polk

If you're Airborne or ask for Airborne school then
Bragg
Richardson Alaska
Italy Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 26 at 2021 4:29 PM 2021-03-26T16:29:44-04:00 2021-03-26T16:29:44-04:00 Cpl Johnny Willis 6856660

SGT Chris R. What were your other MOS choices and what is your ultimate goal?
I understand as prior service, you're just trying to get your foot in the door but once you're in you should also know its just as hard to manuver to other MOS. Which is why, its better to pick and get what you really want rather than the choice on the bottom of your list. And remember, that saying "the needs of the army" will always overtrump your path. It's the needs of the Army that will be the final dictator.

I am a former grunt and I had a exccellent experience, I really did, loved every bit of but that didn't mean that I had to keep doing it - it's a younger mans game. As we get older, we have to think smarter and not harder. One thing I didn't understand was why Devils would switch branchs and stay in the same MOS field. I always recommend anything with tech, like intel, or anything with mechanics preferbly Air Craft mechanics. It's really hard out in the civillian sector to get a job as a motor man, or even as a 11 grunt; without the obvious basics. Security Officer or Police Officer which to be honest, anyone with military experience can get. Contract world? Pretty much if you have the deployment time, you're in the door.

Now if you can land like a tech job - just example, like intel, get your self a TS clearance. Maann, I'm telling you. You'll have so many option open up - and this is just for your cargo pocket. So lets say you do your time in the Army, maybe decide you dont want to do it any more or you got what you needed to out of it. You get out. You got that TS. There are so many jobs right now, that are hiring on the spot for people with TS clearance. Esp if you have a poly with it. So that's why im saying, like, now that you've got the choice and chance to go back in, to pick a job you can actually use outside. Don't limit your choices on the easy way in. You did that once already.

I've been on Ft. Carson, and I liked the base. It's right there in Colorado Springs. You've got an Air Force base, probably about 15 mins away. The Gyms on base are pretty good, and the base is in a pretty good location, I mean right in the middle of civilliazation. Denver is only/under 1hr and 30 mins away. Which isnt bad at all. Colorado Springs is super populated, tons of things to do in Colorado. You got the MWR on base that sells ski resort tickets for super cheap. You got the Coors factory out in Denver that loves VETS - lets you drink for free lol. At least they used to. You got Manitou Springs which is basically Colorado Springs, but its like rubbing next to aka Old City - Old Colorado Springs. This a great hiking spot. Its a line that goes straight up a huge mountain. I forget how high but its legit, and a great workout. IF you go Colorado, 100% you'll do this one day. You got Garden of the Gods which is a pretty cool outlook mountain area with red rocks. It's super diverse in Colorado Springs. Oh they got an Air Force academy there too.

Anyways, as an 11c - if you've got a choice of duty stations to pick.
What are you looking for in your selected base, and what were the ametities that you were after? Such as life, outdoors, etc? Colorado has a ton of outdoors stuff, but keep in mind, it does snow there. But curious as to what makes you pick Carson over like Hawaii or any of the other locations? I loved Bragg and there was so much to do for families there. I have never heard anyone not like Carson.
