SPC Private RallyPoint Member 6244747

I’m trying to reclass out of 92F to 88L or 88K. What are the pros and cons, locations, and barracks of each? 2020-08-25T19:36:18-04:00 SPC Private RallyPoint Member 6244747

I’m trying to reclass out of 92F to 88L or 88K. The job itself was by far the best one ive ever worked at. Kilos operate the boat (navigation, loading, unloading, vessel maintenance, everything above the engine room basically). You get to learn all the coast guard regulations, how to navigate in rivers, oceans, etc worldwide. If you like boats and being on the water, this is it.
88L are the mechanics, they keep the boats running essentially. Engines, electrical, plumbing, and whatever else on that side of the house. Locations for active duty are Newport News, VA.....Port Hueneme, CA....Hawaii, Kuwait and Japan. Life after the Army is if you become an NCO and a petroleum expert there is work as n the outside. If you don't like fuel, then it is not the job for you. Doesn't matter where the assignments are.

88K and 88L are definitely interesting MOSs but as SFC Private RallyPoint Member said, there are limited places you can go. If you happen to,like those places, you could be in luck. Your qualifications are legit and can help you become a merchant mariner. When deployed you live and eat on the boat.

Dude, barracks are barracks. Don't make a career decision on what a barracks may or may not be like. Pick an MOS with a larger pool of people and you’ll have a better chance at getting a class seat Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 25 at 2020 11:16 PM 2020-08-25T23:16:44-04:00 2020-08-25T23:16:44-04:00 SGT(P) Private RallyPoint Member 6250726

Prepare to be stuck at Fort Eustis for some years though Response by SGT(P) Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 27 at 2020 11:56 AM 2020-08-27T11:56:47-04:00 2020-08-27T11:56:47-04:00 SGT Eric Brite 6420097

As a 10 level K or L choices are pretty slim. Ft. Eustis, VA. and Ford Island, HI., as a L after 20 certification school more opportunities open up. Can be competitive in promotion. Schollfield & Ft Eustis are your choices. I've been out since 2011 so there might be changes i am not aware of.
