I made a mistake by polishing my ASU dress shoes with liquid polish, any suggestions on how to fix this before I purchase a new pair?

First and foremost. Stop trying to take the easy way out! Next call the maker of the accursed liquid polish and see if they can help you. If not, mark it up to a lesson learned. Finally STOP TRYING TO TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT. It will, as illustrated by this incident, often blow up in your face. Good luck with the shoes.

If they are the real leather shoes, and it was just actual liquid polish (NOT edge dressing, and NOT the kind of polish that you bake on, and NOT the kind that you paint on and let dry in a dust free environment that promises to dry to a mirror shine), not really hard. Just bust out the old fashioned paste wax and get busy. After several coats of old fashioned spit shine the liquid polish will be a memory (but a painful one, because you do need to do SEVERAL coats, and I hope you know how to spit shine - if not, find a Soldier as old as I am to teach you!) Good luck. By the way, to avoid further disaster - do NOT set your boots on fire. Do NOT set your polish on fire. Do NOT use lighter fluid. We did all of this 'back in the day' and if you had to do boots every day you learned how to do it safely for a mirror shine. No one shines often enough now to remember how to do it safely and I have seen barracks burn down - DON'T TRY IT!

Acetone than buy black leather dye and do over. Buy Corframs instead, no polish required. Easy fix!

So if they were issues shoes, they were "corfram" perma-shiny ones.

You can use a mild abrasive like Brasso on a cotton rag and polish the shoe until the crust comes off. then use Windex to clean the Brasso off, then Pledge or another spray furniture polish to put some shine back on them.

In the future, the best thing to maintain those shoes are 1. Windex, 2. Pledge, 3. Edge dressing. Those are really he only things I'd put on them. If you get a scuff (that doesn't lift the plastic) use Brasso in small circles on the scuff mark until it disappears, then Windex, then Pledge.

They look right out of the box.

Pour paint thinner on a rag and let it soak in then in a circular motion remove the polish. But this will also remove any other polish underneath so be careful
