Insert sad face. Just be wary there are lots of bad places to get in trouble on Oahu. Watch out for the mahu's. I met one guy from the 25th whose unit deployed to Africa (of all places) for some training exercise. There is also a Reserve Infantry Unit the 442nd. the only unit that hasn't been converted to a National Guard unit but I hear that is going to change. The training area are really steep and hilly. There is a high demand for land and ranges to train on, we train often and on the weekends. You will hate the long runs up kole kole pass as it feels like your climbing to heaven and as a grunt get use to your uniforms and boots being red as the red dirt just stains them there. Stay away from waihiawa as it seems that every new grunt wants to go there and get wasted and you don't wanna end up like the grunts that got rolled back in 06,07 and 08 that got rolled by a couple mahu's and woke up with a blackeye , messed up face ,sore and bleeding asshole and an empty wallet. Things you'll love though is the food is great, nothing like zippys chili after a long night of partying and get use to spam and white sticky rice as it's on every meal from breakfast to dinner, the shrimp trucks are just awesome and the temperature is great year round so buy a few nice pairs of flip flops and lots of shorts and leave the Jean's at home. You'll hate the Hawaiian snow in the winter time(that's rain if you don't know) but the temp stays great.Response by SGT Joseph Miller made May 7 at 2018 2:57 PM2018-05-07T14:57:20-04:002018-05-07T14:57:20-04:00CW5 Sam R. Everything is force projection there and much like Europe, the family will be there, you won't be if it stays the way it is. Truly, every location is what you make of it and if the Infantry is anything like Aviation, the branch is the same mainly with sprinkles of divisional differences.
