That could be better utilized if the individual was assigned to a combat arms unit and was a junior NCO. He would be then able to help in the training of his soldiers using the knowledge gained. After having had to google search who/what instructor zero is....here is my thoughts:

No. Recruits should not be taught by this man. At least, not yet anyway (per say). Here is what I mean. Recruits learn the BASICS. Basic understanding of the military, BRM, map reading maps, etc. When they get to their units, that's where the more in-depth training takes place. And even then, perhaps not to be instructed by this guy. Why? Not to knock the Combat Support MOS's, but what would a Lab Tech need specialized training by this guy for? Or even a JAG Soldier? If this guy instructs specialized combat tactics of pistol and rifle marksmanship/engagements.....then let it be for those that will benefit most from him......like SF and Infantry. Teaching this kind of stuff to (for example) a Preventive Medicine Soldier.........who will NEVER (unless some really BAD scheisse happens) clear a room or village......would be wasted training and money. Instructor zero could be used for advanced specialty training or perhaps instructor training where the experience would be more easily recognized and absorbed. That way the information is getting indirectly passed down to recruits without wasting instructor zeroes time or overwhelming the recruits. But, before you can get to CQCM, you need to master the basics. As a leader, I always focussed on this, as you need to train the way you will fight, in both Garrison and Combat. But, I can tell you, I had more than one boss, who was not to keen on such things for safety reasons... Yes, it is necessary, once the basics of safety and marksmanship are completed. Of course this also varies widely by MOS and then units/missions. COL Charles Williams Sat, 25 Feb 2017 13:16:53 -0500 2017-02-25T13:16:53-05:00 2017-02-24T08:53:18-05:00
