<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>1LT Johnson, don&#39;t rush that promotion. Especially being in the Reserves try to learn from every opportunity. I spent 7 years as a LT prior to pinning on CPT both active and reserve time combined. You have more positions available as a LT or CPT than as a MAJ or higher closer to home. You can potentially get yourself promoted outt of a job...Just food for thought. Keep doing your best, be patient and take care of your Soldiers Good luck!

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Actually you&#39;ll learn something from the board you&#39;re not in. They typically do some above/below zone picks. If you are not picked, that tells you that you are not the shiniest star out there, hence are in the next pack. Therefore it&#39;s important to be known as the &quot;Go To&quot; and pay attention to the kind of paper the board sees. Promotion rate to O-3 is very high, but starts bottlenecking at O-4. One thing you can do is be the S-1 type people in other shops want to see.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It happens. They set the zone by your promotion date to 1LT. For example my promotion date was March 15, 2011. The board for CPT was for promotion dates of March 11. I had to wait until the next board. So I missed that cut by 4 days. Not a big deal. Like CAPT Ball said, I used it to shine up my resume and when I made the next board my sequence number was 2.... wait your turn and do your time. Make yourself shine so when you do fall into the zone that you are picked up for sure. The O4 board is much tougher and you don’t want to be a CPT that hasn’t done anything to set yourself apart from the rest of your peers.
