Even basic training tends to shut down over Christmas. I went to basic in November, and was allowed to go home for Christmas.Response by LTC Kevin B. made Aug 23 at 2021 9:18 PM2021-08-23T21:18:09-04:002021-08-23T21:18:09-04:00SGT Joseph Gunderson7210306<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>So, when I was in OSUT there was a practice called Christmas Exodus, during which time trainees would go home for the holiday. However, I can't say whether or not this is still done. In fact, for my training unit, they smashed more stuff into some of our days just to graduate us prior to the start date of the exodus.Response by SGT Joseph Gunderson made Aug 23 at 2021 9:21 PM2021-08-23T21:21:38-04:002021-08-23T21:21:38-04:00SPC Nancy Greene7210316<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was granted “Advanced Leave”. Your goal is 11 weeks of learning how to be a Soldier and then however many weeks your AIT is to learn the basics of your job. Right now that is your goal, everything else is a distraction. Get through training and everything else falls into place just fine.<br /><br />For your edification, my brother had Christmas Exodus and it does still exists. I did not have it and I would argue it's better to not have it.Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 23 at 2021 10:58 PM2021-08-23T22:58:27-04:002021-08-23T22:58:27-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member7210526<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Yes.
