I was in college when this song hit #1 on the charts in 1966 and joined the Navy in July of that year (delayed entry). I came close to going into the Army instead and wanting to be a Green Beret due to the impact of this song.

Believe me, Cpl Brett Wagner, I know every word of it! The SFTG instructors at Camp Mackall made us come to attention and sing it every morning on the days we were in a classroom setting! April-May, 1970. The song was a number one hit in 1966.

Definitely a "One of a Kind" song Cpl Brett Wagner.

If it were not for my health issue (Asthma) I would have made a run to join the Elite. Although I do well I must have my meds in order to function.

I have had the Honor to support some Amazing Teams. I still am buds with them today.

Actually one of my favorites and also a good one from SSG Barry Sadler was Garret Trooper.. My dad had the 8 track... I knew all the songs on there... So if 100 test and only 3 win, why do we get our panties in a bunch if only 19% make it or 55%... Just saying...

I agree this is a motivating ballet. However on lyric always bothered me.
100 men will test today, but only 3 will "WIN" the green beret.
Shouldn't he say earn instead of win? Or am I hearing it wrong?

Two of my favorite movies are In Harm's Way (John Wayne) and Midway (Henry Fonda). Navy movies, but they are great!
