The ASVAB isn’t a big deal. It’s an easy test (that in reality, serves as a military placement qualification test for high school kids. And others get to take it, too). Having only 50% of the required kidney allowance is, however, a very big deal.

When considering waivers, you have to consider, “is the juice worth the squeeze?” In this case, is it worth letting someone into the military with one kidney, accepting all the risks that come with condition, because that person got a 94 on the ASVAB?

People get 94 on the ASVAB every day. While it’s a good score, it’s by no means highly impressive, or uniquely impressive. Additionally, it’s not a good or accurate guarantee of unique or impressive future military service. So in this case, it seems as though the juice would not be worth the squeeze for a waiver.

Respectfully, it’s probably in your best interests to start considering another, more realistic, career path. Look up AUXOPS, which let's civ mbrs stand radio watches at USCG facilities, assist with cooking, act as gate guards, with adequate training...there's also a masters in homeland stuff I'd seen a site for, where USCG Aux pays for a masters, I think it was Washington state flotilla site, it was gven at a homeland school attached I think to Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) as a tenant organization, as I recall, however, the competition for it is pretty serious, and you'd only stand a chance after extensive training with them...separately, if you're a civilian clinician of use to USCG, other than PAs, USCG has their own of those, RNs, NPs, MDs, and DOs, both allopathic and osteopathic physicians, there are two types not just one, most tend to not know that, I'd wanted to go DO, I was never able, can actually assist USPHS clinicians at USCG clinical facilities, I'd wanted to be a flight surgeon back when I'd had delusions of grandeur, had I known of USPHS, I'd have also gone that route for Federal, I trained under an O-6 in USPHS while doing my doctorate before my disability, trust me, look at both USCG Aux, they have surface and aviation fllotillas, the aviation flotillas use aviation observers, I'd wanted it, the disability bollixed that up also, I'm afraid, also, look at CAP, USCG uses member owned planes, CAP has their own corporate planes, they're a corporation chartered by Congress since WW2, USCG Aux isn't a corporation in the same sense, that's why it's classed as an instrumentality, whereas CAP isn't, however, sevl CAP mbrs got serious decorations in WW2, incl for sinking at least one, I think two, German sub's, look up Maj Wynant Farr and Capt Johnny Haggin, the latter got an Air Medal, they sank one of the wubs off the East coast, you'd find it a fascinating story, USC tasks USCG Aux with missions, USAF Air Mobility Command (AMC) I thjnk, it used to be Mil Airlift Command (MAC), tasks CSP, mainly with search and rescue, though I've seen sites about higher level stuff they sometimes apparently also assist with, things like helping catch bad guys to at least some extent, though I know little about that beyond a few vague references I'd seen, USAFR also let's mbrs drill with CAP, I'd very seriously looked into that, and did in fact ask about it, though I never did it, I never knew if USCGR did the same for its mbrs with USCG Aux, I'd always wondered if that was allowed, obviously, I never had the chance to check thus far, trust me, I'll suggest other things, however, look both of those over as well, OK?

www.cgqux.org

Capt Daniel Goodman Fri, 09 Nov 2018 21:15:53 -0500 2018-11-09T21:15:53-05:00 Response by Capt Daniel Goodman made Nov 9 at 2018 9:21 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/i-ve-just-been-disqualified-from-the-air-force-is-this-really-the-end-of-my-military-career?n=4114421&urlhash=4114421

And CAP I think has a program to teacvg adults private pilot level, for mission qualification, I know they have the cadet stuff for sailplanes, as part of their whole STEM thing, I'd helped a CAP cadet squadron where I'd been assigned for awhile when I'd been in, they're a very serious group, cadets who I think get a Billy Mitchell award can be waived from USAF basic training, it might be the Hap Arnold award, I do know they have a very serious cadet program, I'd nearly joined a unit as a kid, about the same time I was a Boy Scout, though in tat I only got to 1st Class, I'm afraid, I never did the CAP, I knew w friend who had, he'd gotten almost into USAF Academy, however, that's another long, very unfortunately tragic story, I'm afraid, I'll save that for another time, it was many years ago, as well...Navy Sea Cadets are similar to CAP, a good clinical friend of mine, his youngest boy was Navy Sea Cadets in high school, he's undergrad now, there even stricter tan CAP, with a very active STEM program, you might also seek to volunteer with them, possibly, as well.... In which we ALL told you that it still will not happen. We have been telling you since DAY ONE that you will not be allowed entrance into the Military. Your ASVAB score will NOT get MEPS to reconsider. Why? Because they HAVE TO FOLLOW THE REGULATIONS. The very regulations you have been shown. The regulations that state you are not qualified for entry. But, if you want to call MEPS and explain you got a 94, by all means go ahead and call. It is not because you as a person will not make it, but the fact your body will not be able to compensate the training and lifestyle due to your one kidney. Have you thought about becoming a contractor? Not military but could be a substitute there is also becoming a police officer or firefighter. You would be a liability. You were warned that you wouldn't make it in SPC Theresa Villanueva Sun, 13 Oct 2019 12:41:20 -0400 2019-10-13T12:41:20-04:00 Response by TSgt Gerald Wilson made Nov 4 at 2019 9:46 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/i-ve-just-been-disqualified-from-the-air-force-is-this-really-the-end-of-my-military-career?n=5202433&urlhash=5202433

All the people who told you it's a no-go to begin with were trying to help you face reality. We all knew the kidney is a deal-killer no matter what - despite whatever slick recruiter-speak was laid on you. Much more important, you were told that your attitude sucks which it absolutely does. I'll go a step further: You wouldn't make it through 1 term in any branch of the military even if you were the finest physical specimen in the history of MEPS. Also, the civilian work force where you're headed is actually LESS patient with petulant bullshit than we are. They'll just fire you whereas the military will try for a while to fix whatever defect is afflicting you. Forget the military and get a life coach. Seriously. From the sound of the responses I am questioning if they refused to waive your much below 94 asvab score.
