I want to do USMC Infantry. Is it bad that I made a 45 on the ASVAB?

I don't know for sure, but I think 45 is plenty high enough for Infantry. My best friend in Infantry OSUT (Army) had a 33, I recall. I don't imagine the requirements would be much different in the USMC.

I was a marine 0311, making a grade at all is a good thing. Lots of idiots, both in charge and taking orders. Best thing to do is rise above your peers. So as your told, and stay in stellar shape. You'll do fine.

First off, you join the Marine Corps to be a Marine, no matter what field you opt for. Secondly don't start off your service worrying about your ASVAB score. You want the 03 field, sign the papers, and do your best.

PV2 J M I would not worry about the score. Your job now is to graduate from High School, and work on being in great physical shape. In Boot Camp, do the best that you can at all times. You will be challenged and it is up to you to meet these challenges. Life presents challenges and obstacles that we all need discipline and determination to overcome. In Boot Camp, having the right mental attitude is just as important as being in top physical shape.

Jokes aside infantry and ASVAB are two words that will never be found in the same paragraph with each other I had people in my unit that had no business with a book in their hands and others that with the proper schooling I would trust my life on their operating table. Luckily 90% of infantry work is facing the right way while pulling a trigger so you should be alright :)

You can always retake the asvab, make sure you get 03xx on your contract. Do NOT let your recruiter talk you going to Paris Island without that on your contract, wait however long you need to for that to open up. Thats how you spend 4 years as a blue water specialist or some trash. Remember, if you're not 03 you're navy

You can re-take it if you have time. Ask your recruiter about a class to boost your score. I did one in Parris Island after I finished my DI tour (mostly because my wife was teaching it) and my score improved from 95 to 117! You want to get a high enough score that they can fit you into more opportunities. Ground side units require a lot of brainwork so, many people think it doesn't but it definitely does. Talk to your recruiter though. You want to go into MEPS and be able to pick your job. If you go Open you won't be infantry. I found out the hard way. Also try and find out what's available when you get to MEPS. I wanted combat engineer but was told they had quotas to fill and the CE billets were full. Ended up in aviation but that was not all bad. Hell it's still the Marines, but find that out and preplan your routes so you can get what you want. Generally infantry billets are always available.

That PV2 J M is a USMC recruiter question. Generally anything above around 31 will get you in door, but the MOS (jobs) all vary. You can find ASVAB scores to jobs online, many places, but only recruiters have the most current information. It changes regularly based on needs and targets.

Some of the most interesting and intelegent people I have ever know were in the Infantry along with some real rocks. We all came together as a solid unit. It takes all kinds. Everyone fills a role and if you're in a good unit all those personalities mesh. The strong help the weak realize their potential. It's pretty awesome. If you wanna be an 03 to go to combat then it’s not gonna happen. You’ll hear it all the time that “your time is coming” but it’s just to blow your head up. Don’t wanna discourage you from being an 03 but if that’s your reason you need to rethink. But yes a 45 is fine.

All you need is a 32, but like Gunny was saying, don't worry about your score. We need bodies in the infantry. The only thing, is that you're contract will be considered 03 open. The only time you'll get a 100% 0311 contract is if you sign reserves.

It's enough for Infantry, but you have to be sure that's all you're going to want to do... with a score that low, odds are your GT (general technical) score isn't up high enough (minimal 110 GT score) is required if you had any dreams in your head whatsoever of eventually trying for Recon, Scout/Sniper, or MARSOC, you'll be setting yourself up for disappointment. If you know for sure that your absolutely fine with 4 years of a regular infantry unit, that score should just cut it... I would personally retake the ASVAB until you do much better on it so those job opportunities could be opened up to you...some of the best Marines I've known have been completely happy running an infantry team or squad (they absolutely have what it takes to do special operations but some just aren't interested in the path as a lot of it is Reconnaissance & Surveillance which takes a special Marine with a lot of patience because sometimes you're just laying around watching which is what R&S entails.... Other guys like myself eat that shit up and all the other craziness that comes with it ... it all depends on the person. But with that current score, none of that would even be an option as you wouldn't meet the required mandatory prerequisites to even try out for Recon, Scout/Snipers or MARSOC. It's your call, but I've been there n done it and you wanna leave yourself with as many options as you can afford yourself... as a Marine, you're always going to be looking to better yourself every single day so why settle with a shitty score... shoot for a better one and study and retake ur ASVAB... all it takes is some dedication of time which you'll be doing plenty of when you sign that line and uncle sam owns your ass for 4 years... Always strive to be the best that you can be, the best Marine that you can be, and the best human being that you can be... good luck
