Have you received assignment instructions? I know Italy used to be an accompanied tour. Your instructions will detail your dependents travel and accommodations. Awesome assignment! But I am Catholic so I am a little bias to Italy. There are some extremely rough areas and you will need to pay attention to housing for guidance if living off post. Due to the housing situation being so rough here is the latest from Naples. I hope this helps:

DIRECT ASSIGNMENT IN EFFECT: Effective June 1, 2013, direct assignment to Military Family Housing (MFH) is in effect for all incoming active duty military personnel (E-1 to O-6) reporting to the Naples area accompanied by dependents. Members will be assigned to MFH immediately upon arrival if housing is available.
The housing unit assigned is based on rank and family composition. If MFH is declined, a member will not be entitled to receive Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA).
Pets: NSA Naples pet regulations state a maximum weight limit of 70 pounds per pet and a total of two pets. There are no exceptions to the direct assignment policy due to pets. There are buses to the Nato base still I believe, until your vehicle gets there. Out in town its interesting experience. Housing department will help you figure out what you want. Also the support base where the hospital and Nex are, are were most of the base house is now. Europe is a wonderful assignment. As long as you try to learn the local culture and language out will be fine. Check out on post housing. It can be outdated but you can end up paying out of pocket living off post even tho COLA is pretty good. Good luck and travel all you can. The sidewalk was a passing lane. No, that's not a joke.
