I think there is missing info or some misunderstanding..
If your asking to go from guard to the 1-501 Airborne Infantry battalion.. then I might understand the preq.
But as that kind of pinpoint assignment is not the norm for a SGT (p) Id more likely guess there is some misunderstanding going on.

Specifically, WHO told you WHAT? What was that persons duty position and qualifications to make the statement?
If it was your unit retention NCO, ask him to pop in here and help us understand his position.

Ah, ok so needs of the Army today for NG prior service , 11B airborne Infantry. That's not surprising.
And you asked specially if you had to be qualified BEFORE signing? If not ask if you can go to school in route?
It will be a hard sell to get a NG unit to fund AB school on a known loss.

USAREC goes by HRC business rules when it comes to prior service. The business rules change all the time. It dictates what MOS's/pay grades are eligible. Sometimes prior service is closed all together. Sometimes 18X is the only option if otherwise qualified. Unfortunately, in the middle of a draw down, enlistment standards are way high for non-prior service, and prior service applicants are restricted or closed.

SFC J Fullerton - SFC Fullerton: this makes sense. I was prior service USN and there were significant restrictions on MOS when I came in on '02. The only Combat Arms jobs open to me at the time were in HIMAD, so that's what I took. Reclassed to PSYOP at six years in though, thus the Airborne requirement.

A year or two after I enlisted, we (the Army) was trying to get BIG, and so prior service folks had a pretty good time of it. I

I have no regrets. I enjoyed being a PATRIOT Launcher Dog, I enjoy being a PSYOPer.

What's the problem with going to Airborne School? I did not have to go to Airborne School to move from the Guard to AD, but I did to get my current MOS, so I understand your conundrum, to an extent. Airborne school is only three weeks and there's no math involved. I was 36 when I went.

Well SFC Belt, the current unit I am with will not send me to the school because we are a signal unit and also due to funding and believe me I would go to the school in a heart beat if I could, but is there a way to persuade my unit in sending me to the school.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - Got it. Now, to your original point, and as others have pointed out: the requirement seems a bit spurious, and I think that there is some signal loss involved.
