My civilian job has one major advantage over life in the military: how much my personal and professional life mix is completely up to me. As a junior enlisted, the two were interchangeable, I lived with my colleagues and saw my bosses outside of work more than I even talked to my family.

That being said, we all have our judgements and our biases. But as a medic I was privy to a lot of personal actions and preferences that were never meant to be known by others, and that never kept me from being a professional, doing my job, and still caring for my soldiers. I would expect at least that much or more from leadership.

Don't start nothing, won't be nothing.

No it should not interfere with work, because you can't possibly believe that everyone will like or except you . People will always find a reason to hate others or dislike a person. Just concentrate on your job, and you will be fine.

It depends on the person's position (poster), if in a leadership position to your position (i.e. squad leader, 1SG, commander) it can can be uncomfortable but, you already know their position on this topic.

When I worked for DOC I worked for a Warden who was "ecclectic" (I'm being kind), he called me on the carpet one day and proceeded to go up one side and down the other for something that had nothing to do with me!! So, I stood there and took it, waited til he was done ranting, and when he finished told him who he should be yelling at- then he apologized. He asked me "You think I'm an asshole, don't you?" My response was "I can work for an asshole-just be an asshole all the time"
The point I'm making is that, by the SM posting it, you know where you stand, good bad or indifferent. That way you know how to react.

You're question needs to. E clairified. To paraphrase: are you asking: If I saw a post from another person at work I didn't like, would it interfere with my work? The part of you're question missing is: Is this non-work behavior you don't like brought into the workplace? We all have to learn to work with all personality types, some are easy, some are not.

All of these issues are only issues because of those that are making them so. If everyone just minded their own business, showed up every day and did their job there would be no problem. Folks that make these things such a big deal so often have far too much free time in their work day.

I would keep a close eye on the individual to ensure their bigotry wasn't hurting anyone in the unit, however outside of that I wouldn't say or do anything based on what someone was posting on RP or any other site.

This is not a business of feelings. I don't get paid or rated in how well I am liked. Over the last two years of open transition I have encountered a lot of people who were unhappy with me. Some openly. Some less. The two things that have always been my bedrock were my ability to work with anyone and placing my job above all.
Not everyone is going to like you. But the majority of people don't rate you, don't pay you and don't f*#k you which means they don't really matter.

It really depends on what the situation is, what the post is, who the person is, and what command they are in, but these kind of anti-queer posts are irrational and inflammatory for the most part, and based on ignorance and fear. A little active learning goes a long way...

Well there's a lot of unanswered questions in your question. If you're reporting to a new unit, you typically don't know anyone, so why would you recognize someone's post from RallyPoint. Is this antigay person your boss... otherwise why would it matter. Is this person in your same work center... otherwise why would it matter. Literally unless you are sitting at your desk, staring at this individual typing anti-gay posts, then why would it matter.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions whether you agree with them or not. So unless this person is A) your boss and someone who could affect your career or B) someone you work in close proximity to, then I see zero reason why the quality/quantity of your work should be interfered with. But like I said, a lot of unanswered questions.

This is a hypothetical question, the service members may or my not be the same rank or assigned to the same section. The topic doesn't have to be gay or transgender, I was limited to the number of characters for more clarification. The topic could be second amendment or any other that someone feels strongly about.

I am looking to see would anything posted negatively towards a person or group interfere with the work relationship. Using gay as an example; if a gay person reported to a unit and recognized section supervisor as someone that wanted all gay members out, or extreme religious post of all homosexuals should be ______ (fill in the blank with whatever).

If you were in the situation or knew of the tension what would be your reaction?

One should keep personal opinions of coworkers out of work. You need to be able to know that you can rely on these people in combat. Can you do that if you can't be professional? I've personally had to deal with people and actions that I didn't agree with, but these were my battles. These are people that rely on you and you rely on them. I don't always agree with my family, but they are still family.

That depends on quite a few factors: I suppose that the politically-incorrect comments were by someone from the new unit. In that case:

* Who said it? (don't answer these for me, but for yourself) Was it someone in unit leadership, or in the office rather than the field? Was it an officer or an enlisted service member?
* What EXACTLY did the person say? We're all responsible for our actions and for our words, and for representing ourselves and our units professionally. But there's a dramatic and too-often-ignored difference between the pius position that "_[lifestyle or behavior in question]_ is an immoral abomination" and the belligerent "we should [commission of violence, imperative tense] all those [pejorative descriptor, plural]!" And either or both, or neither, might inspire a "they don't belong here" comment.

The speaker might even be openly homosexual like right-wing shock-jock Milo Yannopoulis, but dislike the politicized agenda of certain "LGBTQ..." lobbies with regards to the military. Not all "anti-gay" or "anti-trans" positions are equal, nor should they be answered equally, whatever one's own position.

I'm not answering this poll because the options are too narrow for the details given.
