I am currently grandfathered into the 2015 E5 w/ dependent BAH rate on Oahu ($2994 a month). I recently picked up E6 and will get paid for it soon. Will my BAH rate remain at the 2015 E5 rate or raise to the 2015 E6 rate?

Background:
2015 E5: $2994
2015 E6: $3048
2017 E6: $2961

It's only a few dollars either way, but it is still good to know.

Pretty sure your new rank negates the grandfathering and you're going to lose a few dollars.

Be happy, you're in freaking Oahu; I'm stationed in Oklahoma.

LT, you definitely do not lose BAH. I'm sure of that. Because my residence was chosen using the 2015 E5 rate, they cannot lower it while I live in this area. I've got solid confirmation on that one. I am PCSing to a Command in the same zip code, and will get to keep my grandfathered rate. I was just curious as to what would happen when I made pay grade.

PO1 Andrew Gardiner - I'm being told that I won't take a pay cut and that I'll continue to receive the "higher rate". I'll continue to monitor my LES month or month.

Hey man, if you can keep the higher rate, good for you; it's expensive out there.

I'll just sit over here in my nice, cozy house in Oklahoma, which is cheap as hell, being all sorts of jealous.

SN Greg Wright - I finished flight training in February of 2015. Now I'm just hating Oklahoma like all the other guys who got stuck here.

My BAH didn't decrease when I went from SSG to WO1. When I got to Tampa as an E-6, the BAH was about 1775 and reached 1920 at one point. BAH eventually lowered to 1725, but mine stayed at 1920, even when I made WO1.

There are 2 pay adjustments to talk about.
First, the BAH rate will be adjusted automatically starting on January 1, 2017. You will see that in your mid-month pay, and will be able to check the exact rate when your LES is available for viewing. It will be at the 2017 rate for your current pay grade.
Second, your pay will go up once your pay grade is updated in DFAS, which will also be reflected on your LES.
For tracking purposes, you can check here for your expected base pay https://www.navycs.com/charts/2017-military-pay-chart.html and there are BAH calculators that you can find online, as well.
Bottom line is, you should check your LES, and contact your local PSD for questions concerning your pay.
