If a soldier has Staff Duty at 0900, is he required to show up for PT formation at 0545?

PT is at 0630, and people are making up rules. Required to show up 4 hours early for Staff Duty for no reason.

Ahhh yes, the ever present "but that's not what we were told..." ideology of the e-4 mafia. I can as 1SG "just make sh*t up", yes I can. I mean no disrespect, but Soldiers accuse and blame and deflect this stuff all the time. What you need to do is ask your first line leader what the policy is, and follow it. Understand policy can change RIGHT NOW if I and the CO say so. If it still seems like a grey area to you, ask to see the 1SG about it. What I do not like is SGT's and such making stuff up like rules that conflict with things like staff duty rosters, guard duty at midnight stuff. Its is my job to make sure you guys get the sleep you need to do your job. Yes, part of your job is morning PT, but frequently morning PT conflicts with my need to use you late at night.

Good answer 1SG. I hadn't considered a Little Caesar down the COC playing games. That can be a double edged sword, but the lad could need to learn to respond to first line leaders. If they're playing f88k f88k games - what goes around comes around, and they need a wake up call. Command is a near absolute as you say, and the 1SG is half the team.

Why wouldn't you be required to be there? It's a published unit formation and activity and your predecessor will remain on duty until properly relieved.

I meant absolutely no disrespect Sir. It was not required until today from our unit. I was just confused, because we have never been made to come in for PT on days when we are scheduled to do a 24 hour shift. We were told that is our place of duty, and that is where we report to. There was no information put out that policies had changed, so I was looking for possible protection against a negative counseling or possible FTR for a soldier who has never done anything wrong.
