If a soldier is required to reclassify, can that soldier select a duty station?

Current 25u but have to reclass due to surgery. Husband is selecting 31B since he has a forensic science degree. Question is those he get any saying in the duty station?

E5- 6 years in service

It all depends on if there is an opening on the installation he is looking at. If he does reclass into the 31B MOS, he should contact his branch manager who can either build him an assignment (which will be uncommon for regular assignments) or place him in an available open assignment. At the end of the day it is the needs of the Army. Tell him to get with his S1 to view current 31B assignments, but that doesn't guarantee him that assignment, it just allow him to know what is out there.

You certainly can request an assignment but know that the billet requisitions drive that train. I would try though.

Choice of duty assignment can be requested, but getting the request is possible but unlikely

No. He is not authorized to request any duty station. He will attend training TDY enroute. He will receive his duty assignment 60-90 days prior to his class start date.
He can't call his branch manager because he will no longer be that MOS. He can't call the branch manager for the new MOS because he is not that MOS yet. Reclass branch handles the reassignment and they will place him at the location he is needed most.

You would be lucky to just select the MOS you wanted, when I reclassified from 74D-L4 to 88M it wasn't my choice and then they changed the duty station from Ft. Stuart to Ft. Riley; Needs of the Army.
