Can I recommend him for AAM? I think he&#39;s far more deserving of an AAM instead of just a COA. By doing so you can&#39;t really use it when it comes to do his ETS award. My old unit had a default for those who came back on the commandant&#39;s list. Now that being said, if he were to be nudged into sharing his experience with his fellow troops and that led any of them to earn their promotable status or go on to earn commandant&#39;s, then that is a great opportunity to recommend him for what you feel he deserves. I&#39;ve seen them hand them out for PT test, showing up in formation. It&#39;s a BS award. Look in AR 600-8-22, para 1-19 that discusses not duplicating recommendations based on the same action, para 10-7 discusses COAs. <br />You can get on the open door and discuss this with your 1SG. Probably wont get this Soldier an AAM but may get follow on Troops one.
