I've been trying to search around for an answer for this but I can't seem to find it in the regs. If a soldier voluntarily separates from the army, will they still be entitled specifically to severance pay, provided the SM in question meets the criteria for it?

Typically, separation pay is for “involuntary” separation due to a reduction in force or some other HRC directed action (not disciplinary in nature). Voluntary separations, I do not think, are compensated with separation pay. They are what in the civilian world are sometimes called “severance pay” or a “buy out” for early retirement.

I am not an expert, but this makes a lot of sense. If you leave, it's on you.

Separation pay is for when you are involuntarily separated. All of the types and prerequisites are outlined in AR 637-2
