I usually go with the day on day off. If my work day is scheduled on a holiday, I work it. The company pays me pretty well and we get all manner of holiday pay hours for it. Just enough time at work to be there, but not enough time to actually accomplish much. It is the perfect thing for the holidays. I get paid time and a half on holiday's though - so, I can't complain. I volunteer to work Christmas because I have no children. If I had the choice - day on, day off so I could actually get things done! Since everyone else is trying to take those same days off, I actually get work done with no one in the office to keep interrupting me. It allows me to have the time off and spend less on gas. 65 miles round trip each day in the truck adds up. Most half days by the time I seriously start getting productive, is time to close shop and go home. From my past experiences on a ship a half day usually meant getting off two hours earlier than normal and that depends on your division's workload. Some people could be total arses and make you stay because they don't want to pull their weight.
