I'm currently an instructor at Goodfellow AFB. You go to DLI to acquire a language, not an MOS. If you already have an MOS, you can request to 'bypass' DLI altogether and go straight to Goodfellow for MOS training. We get students on a regular basis (almost one per class) who skip DLI as reclasses, as well as occasional heritage speakers of another language who go straight to MOS training from Basic Combat Training. DLI is not a prerequisite for 35P, but a current DLPT is.

Hi SSG, I had a question I’m currently reclassing from 31b to 35p I was curious if you would be able to tell me how likely it would be for me to get a school date within the next two months ?

Classes run consistently, but whether or not you get into one depends on the available slots as well as your clearance and other processing, as well as whether or not you are going to DLI for language acquisition. Your career counselor is probably the best person to answer that at this time. Sorry I couldn't give you more...

Very late to respond! Does the DLAB still come into play here? I'm a civilian and just finished the ASVAB and physical at MEPS. My recruiter is setting me up to take the DLPT. If i'm able to read, write, and speak in a foreign language, whats the benefit of taking the DLPT, as opposed to already being in the Army and reclassing?

Assuming that you are given Russian, and that the MOS needs more Russian speakers, yes you will go to DLI to improve your language and take advanced Russian.
