If I am getting out of the military and becoming a DOD civilian worker, will my husband be able to transfer where I go?

Too many unknowns in your question. Is your husband Military? What grade? What MOS? How long since his last PCS? And the questions go on.

If he is military, the military's needs will dictate where he goes, not your DOD employment location.

It really depends on many different factors. If he is a senior NCO, warrant, or commissioned, his assignments will more than likely dictate where you live (i.e. If he is infantry and they want to send you to Ft. Lee it could be a conflict). This would apply only until he retires or separates. He could change his MOS to a military equivalent of you position making it more likely to find a joint assignment, but the needs of the service will always outweigh personal concerns. I once knew a service member extended for a significant amount of time because his wife was a civilian physician and the post was semi-isolated. In that case her importance to the overall mission of the post was more critical to the DOA than his occupational specialty.

Presuming your husband is MIL as well, no. However, as a spouse, you'll have hiring preference at the location he PCS's to, presuming they have Civil Service positions you qualify for. If there are no permanent positions, some great fits are in the Temp Position arena in which they staff a position for up to two years. During my time as a CS senior manager, I noted quite a number of spouses coming and going. If you do great work, your bosses will typically grease some skids for openings at the next location. We hate tossing good knowledge and experience just to spend 6 months bringing a new employee up.

All great answers here. The likelihood is very small. If your husband is military, then no, you go with him, and there is never guarantee of a job for you.
