Usualy you will wear your normal duty headgear. Berets for Soldiers assigned to Airborne and Ranger units. My assumption would be for you to be able to wear you brown round. But ultimately it’s what the NCOA commandant dictates. So ask because what&#39;s the worst they could do, it would be to say no. There is no such thing as a dumb question and the only dumb question is the one not asked because you&#39;ll never get an answer. you can&#39;t go wrong or be wrong if you ask. So what would you do if a soldier in your house asked you a similar question, your the Drill Sergeant and now it&#39;s in your house and a similar question asked by your soldier in your school house. Soldier is a prior service Drill Sergeant from another branch and now is a branch transfer and reduced in rank from SGT to Spc4 and is in your house for a new MOS and asks if he could wear his pimkin patch(badge) on his uniform and wear his jump boots with pants tucked in because he&#39;s jump qualified and in a airborne unit that makes jumps all of the time, what would you say Response by SSG Byron Hewett made Sep 2 at 2018 10:53 PM 2018-09-02T22:53:22-04:00 2018-09-02T22:53:22-04:00 Marciano Galarza 3932620 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>When I was a DS and attended any military schools, I wore my campaign hat as this was my official duty headgear. When you are at school you are not a DS you are a student, a regular soldier. But if you feel the need to draw the extra attention to yourself then ask the cadre. This would be the case if your assigned head gear was a beret, or a red or black baseball cap (rigger or airborne instructor). I was a Drill Sergeant when I went to BNCOC. I was told by my 1SG to wear my campaign hat through out the course, however the commandant requested I remove it until graduation because the other students were looking to me for guidance and answers instead of the instructors. I reluctantly complained, but felt if that was the case maybe the commandant needed instructors who had better command presence. One of my past supervisors told me when he was at BNCOC, he always wore his stetson and spurs during any dress uniform inspection. That was appropriate dress uniform for our unit and carries over to schools.
