If I re-enlist after being out for four years, do I have any other options besides having to re-complete basic training?

Unless the rules have changed recently, Army prior service with more than a three year break in service are required to do a four week long Warrior Transition Course. Then you should be good unless you change MOS's, which would require a new AIT.

So recently (MAR2017), there has been a change with prior service getting back in. If you've been out for more than three years, you're sent to an augmented basic training. To my understanding from friends that I have in the recruiting command, it's a six week course. As far as I know, there's no getting around it.

Ohh that would be rough haha. We had a couple prior service guys in our BCT from other branches who had deployed. Drills didn't really mess with them much though.

***All prior service with over 3 years out are qualified for PSBCT. I believe it is only offered at Fort Leonard Wood and because of this if you're re-classing and your AIT date does not line up with the program then you are required to go to regular BCT. They looked into the next class date and my AIT still didn't line up. Thank you for the help and I look forward to once again be serving with all of you!
