Hello all,
I was stationed in Germany a little over a year ago as my first duty assignment. I received a $21,000 bonus for enlistment and my MOS. Since I have been in my unit, I have not worked in my mos one time. I have spent nearly my entire time in the Orderly Room. Since I received a bonus, do I have to work in my particular mos since that is what I signed up to do, or does it not matter? Are there any recommendations on how to get transferred to another unit so that I can work in my mos?

Working outside an assigned MOS is not new. Though I can't say absolutely, the Army is the one responsible for you working outside your MOS. PFC (Join to see)

PFC (Join to see) - As someone who served 24 years, the best advice I can give you is "Stop trying to apply logic and reason in examining CoC decisions, your time in the military will be much easier and gratifying!"

The military has strange ways in determining where to use people. As a marine, I was the outstanding rifleman on qualification day. Instead of placing me in a position where I could utilize my shooting skills, they made me a clerk typist in the company office.

Unfortunately this is very common in the Army. When I was a company commander I had Soldiers with very technical skills that they wanted to use but unfortunately our mission was to pull tower guard.

Unfortunately, many NEC/MOS skill sets are perishable if not utilized. It was always my goal to find some way to ensure my Sailors stayed technically proficient when in homeport.

You receiving the bonus was tied to your enlistment and becoming MOS qualified. You are entitled to the money regardless of the position you are filling.
