After that....thank your lucky stars I have retired. Get to your 902d office and start the process, that is the best place to ask questions. However, I just wanted to say that I'm glad you are re-classing. I used to be the same MOS as you (94E), and there isn't much upward advancement with that career field. Good on you. The sky is the limit. Definitely re-class out of 94E. Back during my time in, you had to be a fairly experienced SGT or above to be a CI agent. So I don't know if a PFC shares the same duties any new CI field agent has or not. I think SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint's advice is spot on: First, learn that counterintelligence is one word; second, between your school and your first duty assignment NCOIC you should learn everything you need to know about your day-to-day job responsibilities. Below the rank of SGT expect mostly desk and analysis work. Unless things have changed you must be E5 and 21 at least for credentials. The job is different each day. Although the principles of the job are the same, you never know what will walk through the door. Most want to be an agent at a Field/Resident/Detachment Office; which is being an agent doing investigations and learning the trade. Most though go tactical first to learn to soldier and work for the consumers of CI the war fighters, then they can work towards a more strategic position. No real template but my experience is top grads of course get beat assignments, precious tactical folks have an easier time leveraging strategic, and Those outside of combat arms get sent to assignment to sharpen their sword. It’s the second best job I have ever had and tell any soldier that it’s a great way to have an amazing time I the army and do something relevant. If you’re doing it to hide, you think it’s all sexy-civilian clothes agent stuff or want to use it to get a federal agent job you should rethink the plan. It’s 95% hard word, report writing and prep staff stuff and 5% freaking awesomeness. It’s the 5%that make the other worth it! Do go to your nearest 902d Office to ask the agents how the job is, remember there are some that are jaded like in any other MOS, and if you want to this is a great time to start the process-good luck and hope to see you in the field soon!
