Although, with more thought, if you are wearing the shoes more then 1-2 times a year, and can get an impressive mirror shine, then it might be a good idea. You may be able to polish out blemishes and scuffs much better with shined leather, then you can on Corcorans. Especially if a scuff is bad enough to damage the coating. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 29 Apr 2016 21:34:11 -0400 2016-04-29T21:34:11-04:00 Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 29 at 2016 9:47 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/if-i-wanted-to-buy-leather-shoes-and-polish-them-myself-for-my-dress-uniform-is-that-still-allowed?n=1490088&urlhash=1490088

DA PAM 67-1
c. If you want to “dig into the weeds” see DLA MIL-S-13192P (Military Specification) shoes, mens, dress, oxford. Otherwise the below description from DA PAM 670-1 is sufficient: paras 20–23c Shoes, oxford, black, male. (2) Description. (a) The shoes are made from an approved specification or pattern, or from a similar commercial design and are made of leather, poromeric, or patent leather. The shoe is dress tie-oxford style, with at least three eyelets, and a closed toe and heel. The shoe is plain, with no design in the shoe material. You set the bar. Get the leather, break them in, and polish the hell out of them. Danner Biodegradeable black stain polish is awesome. Slap it on thick, rub it in and then leave a coating. Heat oven to 300 degrees, turn off smoke detector and open windows, and let bake for about 10-15 minutes. Let set and cool, and use ice water with cotton balls. AWESOME SHINE!!! SGT Charles W.
