If I wanted to buy leather shoes and polish them myself for my dress uniform, is that still allowed?

I have seen the shoes at clothing and sales but I do not know if it is still authorized or if you have to wear the dress shoes with the fake shine…

Because once you get a scuff in the pleather, you're fucked and you gotta get a new pair of shoes. With real leather, you can shine then sombitches back to a mirror shine in no time.

SFC (Join to see) - Thanks for the clarification, but I already know all about shining shoes and boots. I've been around for a little while. I had to be spit shined and starched for almost 20 years of my career. It looks good, but ruins uniforms and wastes a huge amount of time. I laugh when I see that some of our younger Soldiers want to go back to boots you can shine and utility uniforms that you can starch. No. No, you don't.

Because if you take the time to spot shine your shoes for an inspection or a board, it demonstrates your willingness to go above and beyond. Plus the leather oxfords last a lifetime, I've still got my first pair from 1991(resolved twice).

SSG James Elmore An admirable desire/wish. What does your mentor have to say about that expenditure of time and effort?? Did your mentor agree that setting such a bar might encourage others? A great real spit shine is beautiful. Do you really think any of the Soldiers you hope to inspire will follow your example? (I have a rappelling rope/seat hanging in my garage that is dry at the upper end, how would you get that upper end wet?). Is that a smart way?

CSM Charles Hayden - I haven't been with my unit in seven months and when I left my 1sg was my first line. He just picked up his blue ID card yesterday so when I get back I have to find out what job they are going to give me to find out who my new first line will be! Then I will ask them.
