If my cousin was in the 2nd infantry division, how does a infantry recruit go about joining that unit? Or is it not possible?

If you are in training you would need to tell your DI, not many volunteering for 2ID. Good luck.

If you are close to Ft Lewis you can find the 2nd's headquarters and get the information you need directly from them.

When you complete training, call or email your branch manger, and ask him or her to place you at JBLM. I loved JBLM. Spent 5 years in 2nd ID. (look at my fancy deployment patch on my picture....)

First thing is he in Korea or FT. Carson?
Then do you know his exact unit?
I think it would help if you had the UIC. I think it is called. Unit Identification Code.
If you have all that info then it should not be that much of a problem since Both need Grunts.
From there talk to your D.I. and tell them why you are trying to get that assignment.

If I'm reading your question right, you are sent wherever the army needs you. You dont get to choose where you go. Not on your first contract that is.

At the point of enlistment ypu can ask the recruiter for a unit of choice contract. The contract would be voided if you wash out of any required training. That was how I and two boyhood pals ended up joining together, being in the same platoon in basic, the same squad in AIT Ft. Polk, within 10 roster numbers of each other in jump school Ft. Benning, and in the same rifle company in the 509th Airborne in Vicenza, Italy in 1973.
