SPC Paul Byler 4864837

I graduate OSUT Friday and have a copy of my orders which have my Report Date which reads exactly as follows;
REPORT DATE: 17 AUGUST 2019 (EARLY REPORTING IS AUTHORIZED)

My question is that while Benning is giving me a direct flight to Fort Carson immediately post graduation Friday, am I required to take the flight and report this weekend? I’m still getting used to how the army works but in the Corps I know the answer would be no. If my OSUT station gives me a direct flight to my first duty station right after graduation, must I take the flight and report immediately? 2019-07-30T16:42:45-04:00 SPC Paul Byler 4864837

I graduate OSUT Friday and have a copy of my orders which have my Report Date which reads exactly as follows;
REPORT DATE: 17 AUGUST 2019 (EARLY REPORTING IS AUTHORIZED)

My question is that while Benning is giving me a direct flight to Fort Carson immediately post graduation Friday, am I required to take the flight and report this weekend? Get with your CoC to see if you can change the flight date. Understand, that if you do that, you WILL need to request leave using a DA 31. Early reporting allows you to report to your unit before the report date. It'll be up to you and the chain to figure out. Make sure to get a hold of your unit sponsor at Carson. Every day is a post card there, but not being able to breathe is a tough row to hoe.
True Story:
Had an CPT from Benning arrive, insisted on taking his PT Test right away, and his run time dropped by almost 2 minutes...then he dry heaved for another 5.
"that's why you should take your 30 days of acclimatization, Sir..."
He passed but not what he expected.
