If someone fails their AIT being in the national guard does the state choose their next MOS or do you get to choose from a list of available MOS In the state?

Needs of the Army. Since you are Guard, you may have a voice in selection....but it will probably be a small voice and ignored.

From my experience the school house ask the state what they need. Then provide the list to the soldier. Then the unit and state get together and determine the MOS the soldier will go into.

Bottom line- Needs of the service- Being an NG, it will probably be whatever the States as a body in the MOS, you may or not get any choice. Of course if it is adjustment or AFPT- then it's a discharge.

I was reclassified twice - one was mass-reclass...MOS was waaaaay overstrength, the other was a 'shortie' (57H course was only 3 wks and the size boots that I would have needed would have taken almost 3 months to get). Neither time did I get to choose.
