They order everyone to have a big celebration, drinking, living it up, stupid decorations, glitter and confetti bombs. Start this at 3 in the morning, go all morning and afternoon. And right at that moment you just couldn't party anymore, announce a surprise inspection and any infractions would mean every person had to do a ten mile run, in full battle gear.

this would take strategic planning on the higher enlisted side. haven't you ever heard "why do we do it this way?" or "why is it done this way?" well give them a day or two to plan out how THEY would do it differently and give them ONE day to implement it! most of the time they'll learn why it's done "the way it's done". but...maybe there's a hard charger out there that will come up with a process improvement or let their individual leadership shine. whenever I got to a new unit and supervised new troops I told them about the Experiment of the Five Monkeys. (it's worth a google) and I told them I didn't want any of them to do anything just because "that's the way it's always been done..."

During ship deployments we'd have "CO for a day" raffles for MWR. It usually ended up being Holiday Routine with fish call and a steel beach picnic.

The enemy would attack and overwhelm the armed forces while the people running it would be out on a smoke break.

On a serious note "running the army" implies to me, not the decision making, but sitting in the position dealing with the demands of being a command team at whatever echelon. I will concede that there are times higher makes decisions that break hearts, but its best to heed the adage, don't judge a person until you walk a mile their shoes. Throughout my career I asked why this and why that, one day a NCO told me if you don't like the way things work, work your butt off to get in that position and run it the way you wanted. So I did and by doing so I learned two things: no matter how high you rise in rank, someone will always be there to rain on your parade and I did my best to run my unit the way I wanted it ran when I was on the bottom looking up.

My stance is I don't speculate on fiction, I do say as you rise through the ranks, adopt the techniques from mentors and leaders you admired and work to ensure those you don't aren't part of your leadership style.

The military would operate from 9 am- 2 pm. PT would consist of Yoga or Crossfit.
There would be no balls, just a bunch of keggers.
Everything will be cleaned nicely, but they would leave immediately after, even if it's at 9:15 am.
No parades.
No "fun" runs. If there were, they would meet at 8:45 exactly to be formed up at 9.

All this contempt for joe. They would probably act like how they think there supervisors act because they don't know how else. Some would sham some would try very hard so that they might be looked at for promotion. It wouldn't be a bad idea to let the Joes try to run the company for a day like organization day. It would give them an idea of what the team leaders, squad leaders , PSG and 1sg deal with regularly.

If the junior enlisted were given jobs with authority, I would hope I had trained them well enough to do the job. It is every Senior NCO's job to train and make sure the soldiers below them can one day do the job they were trained to do from basic and MOS training. I would hope that every soldier can do his/her job to the best of their abilities, and when we PCS or retire our jobs our done by those junior enlisted and we can rest easy knowing the job is in good hands. If we all ever think that we are the only ones that can do the job, then how can those junior enlisted ever move up in rank. The Services are the backbone of this countries strength and power in the rest of the world. So, when we ask our soldiers to go forward and protect us are we going to have confidence in them, or doubt their abilities, because they weren't trained right by the Senior NCO's when they worked their ways through the ranks. We have to be sure that every soldier is trained and disciplined in all facets of their jobs, and keep us safe at night knowing that they are the best they can be, and we all were junior enlisted at one time of another in the service, so be sure all of our soldiers are trained the way we need them to be, and we can rest easy knowing they are protecting our rights as the best trained soldiers in the world...…

There was an episode of MASH years ago where they did a British military tradition & had the lowest ranking person run the unit for a day & the highest ranking person did the lowest job. My one unit did it for fun. They chose the right enlisted people to do it at least. Some of our lowest ranking people just were not smart enough to function outside their assigned jobs. It went well overall. It allowed for everybody to get an appreciation for what their higher ranking & lower ranking counterparts had to deal with. Our CO was a great man & didn't have an issue with doing that. We tried to do it again a year later with an new commander. He couldn't bring himself to do it.

I think they would get bored of doing nothing. End up doing their jobs. Getting it done. And only working when needed. Instead of randomly getting an O2 part at 1645 and having to stay till 2330 to put it on
