If we are an old unit, why can't we wear Tri Corner hats as part of our unit to connect with our past?

Safety, plain and simple.

What most people don't realize is that the tri-corner actually died out due to eye injuries. Seems people kept forgetting where the front peak was in poking their battle buddies in the eye.

What is ALSO not commonly know is that the current boonie cap is actually a NOD to the tri-corner of old, but the rim is intentionally floppy to prevent previous eye injury issues.

Why doesn't the Army create a special "I have sh_t" ribbon so I don't have to deal with the mostly participation trophy fruit salad? Same thing for patches.

I'll admit I'm old school jaded with the ADS (Award Derangement Syndrome) going on. Old school meant at a NAM/AAM etc. required signature of a 3-Star. There was a time you only saw them on about 1/3rd the E-5s and O-3s out there.

Line the hidden part of the brim and demonstrate it's functionality as a funnel to the powers that be. Great for filling canteens or adding oil or hydraulic fluids to vehicles, aircraft and other motors. Point out the money the Army could save on funnels.

Special Forces, Rangers and others get colorful berets, cavalry wears cowboy hat and spurs. So why not? If a unit can trace its history back to the revolutionary war, then wear the Tri-corn hat with dress blues!

AFAIK, the tri corner hat is organizational headgear for the 3rd Inf Regt. The 2/3rds was in the 199th Inf BDE. I have a picture somewhere of their Os and BG C C Ryder*, BDE CG, meeting with Westy, CG MACV, at our BMB and they were wearing their tri corner hats.

* Goat of Westy's class and the only BDE CDR that had as rock song on the charts while CG.
