Realistically, any momentum to push towards including women in the draft is all highly notional is would more likely be a process of inclusion without any actual substance. That is because we are an all volunteer force, which relies more on incentives and inclusivity to recruit than for strength in numbers. You also tend to have a higher quality of soldier whom are there willingly.

But maybe? I just feel like the draft and including women in the draft, is so beyond any modern effort to amassing a force necessary to fight a war. It’s almost too unnecessary to include, but would, in my eyes at least, be good to consider. Good question though.

I think the proposed NDAA has that provision in it. Personally, I think either EVERYONE should have to register with the Selective Service or NO ONE should be required. If you want to volunteer then well and good but shouldn't be required in today's "all volunteer" military.

I dunno, maybe certain federal employment positions and/or public offices should have a requirement for registration with Selective Service but even that is debatable.

End result? All things supposingly equal, YES ... the draft SHOULD include women. The only caveat I'd add though is that women, INITIALLY should be in support roles; BUT they should certainly be allowed to go into combat roles if they want. Sexist? I don't think so ... some women (as well as some men) are more suited to support roles; specifically rear echelon jobs which as we all know, are just as important as grunts.

This is something I feel women should discuss amongst themselves. If women are equal in the military then they should be equal in the draft. That being said, plenty of women are satisfied with the important role they play in society and have no desire to be a hunter or a killer. Is this kind of equality really what the majority of women want? I personally believe women hold a higher value to society and that men are expendable, so is the ability to fight and serve in combat arms really a move towards equality? I dont think so but that is something for you ladies to decide.

With the implementation of more unisex army standards it certainly removes a layer of consideration when that time comes.

It should, but what should be is not always what will be. Though this does remind me of what one of my female captains once said, "Everyone wants equal rights until it punches you square in the teeth".

Let's hope we never have to find out.... darn good question though... I would vote against it... We allowed women in the combat service to applaud them the equal rights they deserve, but I would be against entering them into the draft, but them, I am against entering boys into the draft as well... I don't think we will ever need to have another draft....

Don't you think it should? Even if women are not going into combat roles there are plenty of non combat jobs . Look at the amount of women that served during WW2, most of our allies were drafting women. WW2 was a significant time for women, not just military service but moving into jobs that had been strictly male before. This is another big break out time for women in the military. So all things being equal, shouldn't they be subject to the draft?

I sure hope not. women do a fine job in the military but I feel that it wouldn't work in 11 bravo combat roles. It is a natural instinct of men to protect women. I was an 11 bravo combat vet. I know that alot of people will disagree with me but that is my opinion, that's all.

Until women face the same possibilities of being drafted, it is difficult to maintain that women are equal to men. Until the assignment of women to combat arms and combat service support is mandatory vs voluntary, it is difficult to maintain that women are equal to men. If one wants to take the wind out of the objector's sails, all should be equal.
