I don't believe they have any correlation with each other. I don't see how the VA would deny anybody unless they committed a felony while they were in the military and were discharged for that.

No. You will continue to receive your benefits but at a lower rate (20% of what you earn) if you are incarcerated for over 60 days. Once released you will return to the full amount awarded. I believe that while incarcerated it is possible to send the remaining 80% to a spouse. But no you will not loose your monetary benefits. Health care and other benefits will stop until released. Once released you can work with a counselor to obtain employment or education if so desired.

You wont lose your benefits, the VA reduces your compensation while incarcerated. The link has already been posted with the correct answer.
