If you are selected for promotion to E-8 and still want to retire at 20, is that possible without completing the 3-year promotion obligation?

I believe there was or is a stipulation that allows you to retire but I would just retire at the rank of e7 with a retirement pay of my last 3 years. I did some research and couldn’t find the answer in black and white. I am going to ask my J1 about this but figured I would ask the community first. Thanks ahead of time for any responses.

Yes you can, but when you submit your retirement request HRC can just say no until you finish your three years.

Retirement supersedes everything. Technically you can pin on E-8, sign the 3-year commitment, and file papers for retirement the day after you hit 20. Retirement voids all commitments, extensions, etc. As long as you are not on a deployment or a remote tour, you can retire ANY time after 20 years. But you won't get the full pension for your new rank. High-3. Average your three last years annual salaries together.

You can pin MSG/1SG, but if you do not comlete the service obligation, and are allowed to retire, your retire paygrade will be E-7.

Look you want the rank/money then you do the added time. Don't want, it , sign a state and put in your papers.
