Heck, most of the ones I was assigned to have already been eliminated.

If you're old enough, that's true. Only one Navy Base is left. The Army MP Batt has been decommissioned, and the CG's District 2 no longer exists. Damn, I'm old!!!

I know that feeling. Only 2 of the bases I was stationed at over 25 years are still open.

Yes, we loved it there. It was our first operational base, first son was born there and where else can you use a snowmobile to commute to work!

Minot probably or Cannon. Both have little to recommend them except remote

Was at Disneyland, er, Vandenberg AFB for eight years… hated it. Spent 13 years at Minot and didn’t want to leave. It’s remote compared to most other military facilities but that’s part of its charm.

I agree. Cannon AFB, NM - my first assignment - was remote from the rest of American society.
